Private by design
Your notes, files, their names and your folder structure are encrypted on your device. Your master password is never stored and never leaves your computer.
XChaCha20-Poly1305 encryption with a key derived from your password by Argon2id.
File names, types, sizes, folders and links between items are encrypted too.
The vault opens only with your master password and locks itself when you step away.
No network requests: the app works fully offline.

Files are split into encrypted blocks and streamed in and out, so large files open quickly and big vaults stay responsive.
Vaults hold big files and whole folders, not just text.
Files are encrypted as they are read — no plaintext copies on disk during import.
Each 1 MiB block is encrypted separately, so a file opens without decrypting everything else.
Zstandard compresses blocks only when it helps and skips already-compressed formats.
ErtiCloud Backup
Coming soonErtiNote is planned as a free app for local use. Later, we plan to offer ErtiCloud Backup — an optional paid subscription that keeps encrypted copies of your vault in the cloud.
Planned: regular backups of your vault without having to think about them.
Planned: get your data back after losing or replacing a device.
Planned: backups are encrypted on your device before upload, so the service stores only data it cannot read.
ErtiNote will keep working fully without the cloud. Backup is something you choose to turn on.
ErtiCloud Backup is not available yet, and its details may change before it launches.

No. ErtiNote works with a vault file on your device and makes no network requests.
It cannot be recovered — not by us, not by anyone. There is no back door. Choose a strong password you will remember, and keep a safe copy.
Yes. The vault is a single encrypted file you can keep anywhere: on a disk, a USB drive or in the folder of your sync service. Only the encrypted file leaves your device.
Not yet. ErtiNote uses established open-source cryptography libraries and documents its threat model, but no independent audit has been carried out. We will say so here when that changes.
The app’s interface is currently available in English and Russian. This website is available in ten languages. The interface previews here show the app in English, or in Russian on the Russian version of the site.
